Daryl Powell states Wakefield Trinity have their work cut out to duplicate last season's Super League double over as the two face each other for the very first time this campaign on Saturday.

The 60-year-old, who coached Warrington in between 2022-23, led his Trinity side to 30-16 away and 40-10 home wins against Wolves last season.

But Powell believes Sam Burgess's side have made strides since those outcomes and anticipates an extreme test when the 2 fulfill in front of the BBC electronic cameras at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

"Everybody asks me this around Warrington," Powell informed BBC Radio Leeds. "I simply concentrate on us and don't fret about what occurred last year.

"We have put it behind us since this year is completely different. I believed Warrington played really well in round one, they were really strong and really moved the ball well."

"They have signed a number of pack gamers in Liam Byrne and Toafofoa Sipley who look like they have made a distinction in the middle of the field."

Warrington had a bye week last week as their scheduled opponents Hull KR took on Brisbane Broncos worldwide Club Challenge but went out 24-14 winners over St Helens in week one.
