Stage one of the development includes the construction of the center building, including community conference spaces, a social area, updated 3G and grass pitches, and brand-new open areas for sport and leisure. Stage two is anticipated to bring further improvements to the site. The website is arranged to open in early summertime 2026.

Among those in attendance was previous expert footballer and broadcaster Chris Kamara, who grew up in the location and played much of his early football in Park End.

'My very first surprise was, how comes Middlesbrough? When I was growing up, we didn't have a lot going on around there, so that was a huge surprise and a welcome boost,' Kamara said on the funding.

'To be associated with it is amazing. You know, I'm so delighted for the area. The kids can start dreaming like I did, of being an expert footballer. You have actually got these centers, which are modern, and they'll have the ability to utilize them.'

When asked what motivated him to get onboard with the initiative, Kamara spoke on the value football plays in the area and the positive impact the Southlands Hub will have going forward.

' [The financing can have a huge impact] To have the football club [Middlesbrough] onboard as well will be massive for the youngsters to dream and believe, one day, like I did, 'Maybe I might place on that shirt of Middlesbrough and stroll out at the Riverside'.

'Now days, kids have got to contend with computers and cellphones. We require to get them out of the house. I do not want to seem like a dinosaur, however we didn't have interruptions in those days - you either played football or played in the street. Otherwise, you did absolutely nothing, basically.

'If you were fortunate enough to have a telly, you got possibly an hour [to see it] - so we had no diversions, but not the centers. Now, they're making the facilities available for the children, so [they should] use them - there's no reason.'

Kamara also took time to answer questions surrounding the 2025-26 Premier League season - including his leading competitors for the title.

'Liverpool [have actually stood apart so far this season] People keep saying they're not shooting on all cylinders - well they have actually won their games. God aid teams when they do start firing. They were energizing against Newcastle. Look at Chelsea in their second video game, they selected up truly well [against West Ham United]

'Mikel Arteta and Arsenal - they have actually been building up for this. There won't be any second possibilities this time. He's going to have to win the Premier League or the Champions League. He probably has his finest squad.

'Manchester City - you can never ever write them off - especially with Pep [Guardiola] at the helm. Spurs might be the dark horses this year - there is so much to eagerly anticipate.'

Kamara likewise shared his viewpoint on the Alexander Isak legend at Newcastle. It is worth noting his comments were made prior to Liverpool's acquisition of Isak.

' [The Alexander Isak situation is] very difficult for all . What you're going to relate to all these top gamers is that when you sign them, you're going to need to put in a buyout stipulation, and then if a club pays, you accept that, and they can walk,' he stated.

'The circumstance with Isak is that he was adored by the Newcastle fans and now he doesn't wish to play for them. So, they have every right to feel let down and disappointed.'
